Because it’s Friday: The time-travelling jukebox

If you're looking for some musical nostalgia this weekend, look no further than How Music Taste Evolved, from design firm Polygraph (and with a hat tip to Pogue). Choose any month from the past six decades, and then sit back and watch the top 5 songs on the Billboard chart of the day move up and down and listen to the top song as time progresses.
I've had this on in the background for most of the day, and it's been a joy to hear snippets of songs and hear how musical styles have evolved over the years. (Criminally, you can't pause time and listen to a track in its entirety when you come across an old favourite — time just keeps on marching.) It's also interesting to see the progression of the Billoard chart itself: the 60's and 70's saw new hits on a near-weekly basis at the top of the charts, and many now-famous singles (like Cat's in the Cradle) only had the briefest moment in the charts. On the other hand, the 90's has the same hit staying at the top for weeks on end. (1994 was basically all Boyz II Men, all the time: America, what were you thinking!?)
