This week is an exciting week. Why is this? Well an addition to the NHS-R communities packages has been launched – the NHSDataDictionaRy – now on CRAN. To learn how to use this please look below. I am so excited about the launch of this package and I really think it will help to standardise NHS lookups in the NHS, for R users.
Where do I find this webinar?
The NHSDataDictionaRy webinar is now available at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nhsdatadictionary-a-package-to-standardise-nhs-data-dictionary-lookups-tickets-145292033383. This will provide insight into how to utilise this new package.

What else has been happening?
These are just some of the other things the busy community has been up to.
NHSRDatasets update released on CRAN
The launch of the adapted NHSRDatasets has been done this week. This includes healthcare dataset additions for:
- Synthetic National Early Warning Score dataset – this is a healthcare dataset that can be used for data visualisation and data manipulation training – vignette here.
- Stranded patient (patients in hospital longer than 7 days) dataset – this has been added as a machine learning binary classification dataset – vignette here.
- This adds to the already growing list of datasets in the NHSRDatasets package
This is available now for downloading from CRAN.
Communicating results to clinicians
The community hosted a webinar today aimed at how analysts and data scientists can work better with clinicians, and to engage better with clinicans. The YouTube video can be accessed below:
Using Sankey Diagrams to visualise patient flow
This workshop starts tomorrow, and it is not too late to register.
Pre-requisites: Prior experience of using R is required. Pre-installation of key software is essential. Further details on how to complete this will be sent to you on registration.
About the course: This session will be an exercise in data wrangling as much as it will be in data visualisation. To create a Sankey Diagram, you first need to ensure your data is in a nice neat usable format. On the day, you learn how to manipulate and restructure data (using dplyr) before creating Sankey diagrams (using NetworkD3) to visualise patient flow.
There is lots on the agenda and please watch out for future sessions. I am hosting a TidyModels webinar in August, so look out for that: https://nhsrcommunity.com/home/webinars/. If you would like me to run this course for you separately, then I would be happy to be contacted on Twitter @StatsGary.
We plan to do lots of R work this year and would love for new members to come on board. If you are interested in becoming a member, then please contact me and I can refer you in.
