Hello, R-users!

We are very excited to present to your attention nothing less than an international conference, eRum 2018, and the conference keynote speakers!

The eRum conferences are particularly thought for the many Europeans that can’t manage to take part in the use!R conferences when they are based in USA – or, just like this year, in Australia.

The 2018 eRum edition will take place in Budapest, Hungary, from the 14th to the 16th of May.

In 2016, eRum tool place in Ponzan, Poland. More than 250 attendees and over 80 speakers participated, but we expect an even wider contribution for this edition.

The keynotes

Today we are particularly happy to announce the conference keynotes speakers, and what a list of names!

We will have with us:

Professor Achim Zeileis from Innsbruk, Austria. Achim is Professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Economics and Statistics at Universität Innsbruck, co-author of a variety of CRAN packages such as zoo, colorspace, party(kit), sandwich, or exams,  and ordinary member of the R Foundation.

Professor Stefano Maria Iacus from Milan, Italy; Stefano is a full professor in Statistics, former R Core Team member (1999-2014) and maintainer of several R packages (eg sde, cem, rrp and opefimor), founder and president of Voices from the Blog.

Martin Mächler, senior scientist in Statistics at ETH Zurich, Switzerland; Martin is a Mathematician (Ph.D. ETH Z) and Statistician, R Core member, Secretary General of the R Foundation and author of more than 20 R packages (such as Matrix, cluster, robustbase, cobs, VLMC, bitops or copula)

Nathalie Villa-Vialaneix, researcher at the French National Institute for Agronomical Research (INRA), France. Nathalie is the maintainer of the SOMbrero, SISIR and RNAseqNet R packages and author of a number of others. She is a board member of the biostatistics platform in Toulouse and a former board member of the French Statistical Association (SFdS).

You can discover more about keynotes, program and venues in the eRum2018 website here: http://2018.erum.io/

The Call for Papers

We already received a high number and good quality workshop submissions for our Call for Papers, so be prepared for a great workshop day on May 14 with half- and full-day tutorials! More details coming in the next few weeks.

Note that the Call for Papers is still open for regular talks and posters, so please submit your idea as soon as possible to help the job of the Program Committee (which I’m a member of – and I’m awed!), with reviewing the submissions. There are many formats you can submit your work with, from regular talks up to quick lightning talks or posters. The submission form is open here.

The Support

The aim of eRum is to create a community of European R users and to share knowledge and passion within it. While the registration fees are kept as low as possible, the event is entirely non-profit and Quantide itself is a proud supporter of this wonderful project. If you want to support the success of this event, please get in contact with us and we will provide you every info about the sponsorship packages.

Keep yourself updated about the eRum evolution following @erum2018 on Twitter, or subscribing the eRum newsletter! And don’t forget to check the official site, 2018.erum.iowhere you can also submit your abstracts or ask questions.

Thank you so much for your attention; we are eager for meeting you in Budapest!

Sincerely,
Mariachiara Fortuna – in behalf of the organizing committee
