One of the search terms that bring people frequently to my site is “install ESS on Mac OS X” or something like that. As it turns out installing ESS on OS X is really easy, but Google search does not really bring up good instructions. There are at least two easy options:

  1. Use Aquamacs, it comes bundled with ESS
  2. Use Carbon Emacs , it also comes with ESS, but you need to add the line (require ‘ess-site) to your .emacs file in your  home directory in order to enable it.

That’s it!
