Anyone who has a long commute or who has to travel with work knows the importance of podcasts. Podcasts allow you turn otherwise useless time, into something both productive and interesting. In this blog post, we’ll describe some of our favourite podcasts.

This list isn’t meant to be exhaustive, it’s just what we are currently listening too – our top 5. But don’t fret, we’ve created a comprehensive list, so let us know if any are missing.

Not so Standard Deviations

A data science podcast by Roger Peng @rdpeng and Hilary Parker @hspter who talk about the latest in data science and data analysis in academia and industry. They talk a lot about R and common problems in the life of a data scientist. A nice mixture of technical and light topics.

Grumpy Old Geeks

What went wrong on the internet and who’s to blame

Two “elder” geeks, complain about the internet and tech at large. Amusing, especially for their disdain for AI. Not really data science, but general tech. Warning: sometimes the language is “adult”.

Dataframed

The official podcast from Data Camp. Each episode takes the form of an interview.

More or Less

Tim Harford explains – and sometimes debunks – the numbers and statistics used in political debate, the news and everyday life. The programme has a UK slant but covers global topics. It’s very useful for playing in the car in the presence of non-data scientists!

In our Time

In Our Time is a live BBC radio discussion series exploring the history of ideas, presented by Melvyn Bragg since 15 October 1998. It covers a variety of topics, including Mathematics. Each programme lasts one hour.
