The eRum2020 Organizing Committee launched today the CovidR contest. CovidR is a pre-conference event, starting today with the call and collection of contributions from the R community.

Just a few days after announcing that eRum2020 is goingo virtual, this is another surprise the we hope will help the community stay safe, strong and engaged. An internal jury will pick the winner(s) by evaluating the technical quality of the work. Popularity of the work among the community will also count, based on thumbs up in the CovidR Gallery.

The aim of the contest is to comprehend, explain, show and analyse the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic with R analytics. As individuals we can do our part in keeping others safe by following the rules suggested by governments and WHO; as part of the data science community we can also provide our contribution, by analyzing the data and helping to communicate it.

Whether it is a genetic or epidemiology analysis, a map mashup of infection data, a model, a demographic data context of the pandemic or a mobility analysis after the lockdown all around the globe, share your work and participate to CovidR, and help us in spreading the voice on the social media using the #covidr hashtag!

How to participate to the contest

You can find here on the conference website the official description of the event and its deadlines. The CovidR contest website subsection is already up and running, and submissions are open. This will be the gateway for all submissions and contributions display in a dedicated gallery.

The pre-conference event will take place on May 29th, when selected participants will be invited to present their work and the contest winners will be announced and awarded with e-prizes. Contributions can be submitted until May 22nd.  The wider R community is invited to provide feedback through the website. The winner(s) will be announced during the conference pre-event on May 29th and will be invited to present at eRum2020 in June.
