On October 1st, Revolution Analytics opens the 2014 season for sponsoring R user groups. Over the past few months we have seen quite a few new user groups start up and we expect the trend to continue into 2014. We hope that our 2014 sponsorship program will help to sustain the momentum. The following figure shows the increase in Revolution sponsored R user groups between 2012 and 2013 for each of the three levels of sponsorship.

Vector level sponsorship — which is geared to groups just getting started — comes with a cash grant of $100. The main requirements for Vector sponsorship are a group webpage that explicitly states that the group is focused on the R language and some indication that the group is operational. Sponsorship for Matrix level support includes a cash grant of $500. The Matrix level grant is for to smaller established groups that have had at least 6 meetings in the last 6 months each of which has had 30 or more attendees. The third level, Array sponsorship, is targeted to large, well-established groups and comes with a grant of $1,000. Minimum requirements here are at least 3 meetings in the last 6 months each with 60 more attendees.

So, if you are thinking about starting a new user group and believe that a modest grant and “box of “goodies” from Revolution Analytics would help you to succeed please, read the requirements for sponsorship, do the preliminary work and apply. Likewise, if you are the organizer of an already established R user group and think that some support from Revolution would help you grow we also encourage you to apply. Also note, that sponsorship is for one year, so if Revolution Analytics sponsored your group in 2013 please feel free to apply for 2014 sponsorship when your anniversary approaches.

And finally, let us help you get the word out. If you have an R user group event that you would like to promote, please send us word in a form that makes it easy to export to a google calendar and we will do our best to list it on our community calendar
