Hadley Wickham, R guru and author of several popular R packages (ggplot2 and plyr, to name just two), will present his 2-day R Development Master Class in New York City, December 12-13. This two-day course offers expert instruction in R programming and package development, and is ideal for anyone looking to hone their R development skills with expert instruction.

Day 1 of the course, Advanced Programming Techniques, will teach you how to become a skilled R programmer, and master new techniques of abstraction — particularly techniques that come from R's functional heritage. Mastering these techniques will allow you to solve harder problems with fewer lines of code. Topics for this day include: First order functions, Controlling evaluation, Object oriented programming in R and Development best practices.

Day 2 covers Package Development in R. Here you'll learn how to turn your code into packages that others can easily download and use. Writing a package can seem overwhelming at first, but you'll start with the basics, and show you the packages that will help you get up and running as quickly as possible. You'll learn from the mistakes Hadley's made writing over 20 R packages, and learn the tools that make package development and maintenance as simple as possible. Topics for day 2 include: Introduction to package development, Playing well with others, Ensuring correctness with unit testing, and Releasing your package into the wild.
