I have wrote an R Package that was accepted on CRAN. oec, which is the name of the package, allows you to use The Observatory of Economic Complexity‘s API from R console to obtain international trade data to create spreadsheets (csv format) and D3Plus visualizations.
You can see the package on CRAN and on Github.
