At this meetup we’re fortunate to have RStudio’s lead developer Joe Cheng flying in from Seattle to talk about Shiny. Shiny makes it possible to develop interactive web applications by writing only a handful of R code. It lowers the barriers to constructing interactive dashboards that you can use to better explain your results to your boss and/or co-workers, or it can help you productionalize your analysis so that others in your company can make use of it regularly without the need to continually bother you.

Before the meetup we’ll be hosting a more advanced Shiny workshop – and note that you must sign up separately for this session.

Timeline:
5:00 pm – 6:30 pm Advanced Shiny workshop (you must RSVP separately – see link below)
6:30 pm – 7:15 pm Pizza and networking
7:15 pm Meetup talk on Shiny

The meetup talk will cover:

Shiny: What is it? What’s new? – by Joe Cheng, RStudio
Shiny is a package for R that’s designed to easily turn your analyses into interactive web applications–no web development knowledge required. Joe Cheng will demonstrate how easy it is to get started with Shiny, and then walk through some examples that show some of the interesting things you can do with it, including some recent developments.

Bio: Joe is a software engineer who has worked at a number of startups including Allaire, Upromise, and Onfolio, and also at Microsoft on Windows Live Writer. At RStudio he built a powerful, intuitive, browser-based IDE for the R programming language. Also created the Shiny web framework for R, and the RPubs document publishing service.

Date: January 21, 2015 (Wednesday)

You must have a confirmed RSVP and please arrive by 7:00 pm the latest. Please RSVP here on Eventbrite for the meetup talk and you must RSVP separately here for the Advanced workshop at 5pm (spots are very limited).

Venue: Amobee (formerly Adconion) in Santa Monica will kindly host this meetup along with providing pizza and drinks. (A big Thank You to both Mikhail and Amobee for their support!)
