We were honoured to have a joint event with the Big Data Developer Meetup Group where we were introduced to IBMs BigR package for in-Hadoop Analytics. Mr. Rafeal Coss and Mr. Brandon MacKenzie demonstrated the workings of BigR, the integration of R into Hadoop using IBM BigInsights. You can download the slides of this presentation by clicking here.

BigR allows R users to seamlessly access and manipulate data in HDFS using R’s familiar programming syntax and paradigm. You can perform tasks such as data exploration, transformation, statistical analysis, modeling, and visualization at scale without resorting to map/reduce constructs or unfamiliar scripting languages.

Brandon demonstrated an upcoming technology in Big R called SystemML that can be to run scalable machine learning algorithms such as regression, classification, or clustering over extremely large data sets.
